something weird happened while i was having breakfast (tuna & coffee). that Jewel song "Break Me" came on MTV. i kind of hummed along with it, but i don't really know the words so i was just listening to the tune when suddenly my throat kind of choked up and i could feel tears welling up behind my eyes for no good reason. this isn't the first time it's happened either. once i was listening to "Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring" and then i started thinking of Albert Schweitzer and Africa and The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles, all of which made me just start weeping uncontrollably, much to the discomfort of my father and brother who happened to be in the same room. i believe Stephan Jenkins and 3EB alluded to the phenomenon in "Semi-Charmed Life": the four right chords can make me cry. Bach gets me right in the solar plexus; i think his is the music of the spheres. apparently Douglas Adams thought so too, in Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency -- i'm checking my book and cantata number six got a nice little mention. and i strongly suspect that whoever wrote some of the older BSB songs knows the four right chords too. that's the only explanation i have for why i still like them {shrug}

hn. funny how pseudo-intellectual i get when i've had coffee...
